Superabrasive's new metal bond tools for super hard concrete break though the barriers of even the most stubborn concrete floors. By freeing up more new diamonds to be used and not "glazing over", the new tools allow your crews to cut down on labor and stop wasting time trying to figure out how to open extremely hard concrete. They are featuring the same QuickChange style attachment that easily slides in and out of reusable plates, with no bolting required.

At this year's Concrete Polishing Rodeo held in Las Vegas on 1/20-22, Lavina competed in the MMA Grind off category and was rated Best in class. The 6-head Lavina 32 Pro was the fastest machine to remove a heavy MMA coating from the concrete slab. Other machine manufacturers that participated in the head-to-head competition were HTC, Husqvarna and CPS.
Superabrasive's Lavina 30G Pro was selected the winner of the Concrete-working equipment category in the 2011 RER Innovative Product Awards competition. Winners were selected by a panel of industry judges in each of 13 categories:

The RER Innovative Product Award was established in 2003 to honor excellence in new product development in the equipment rental industry. This year the awards showcased the most innovative products introduced between Aug. 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011. Read the full article

The first Lavina training and certification class in Ukraine was a great success. Over 60 contractors attended the training which was organized by CDC, distributor of the Lavina line for Ukraine. Len Sniegowski, Sales Manager at Superabrasive, shared his impressions from his trip to Ukraine.
"It was interesting to note that the Ukranian concrete was very different form what we work with in the States. It was actually testing as a 3 (soft) on the Mohs scale, but it ground like hard concrete. The concrete was cutting quickly, but not wearing the diamonds excessively. It was more brittle than soft, and struck me to be like hard sand particles when I examined the vacuum canister during the grind. According to our scratch test data and everything we know about hardness we should have been using soft concrete tools (Hard Bond Metals) to perform the grinding, but our hard concrete tools (Soft Bond Metals) actually performed much better providing longer diamond life and a better finish. This just goes to show that you should never have a preconception about what tools to use until you are on the job site and able to examine and test first hand.<br>
After our initial 30 and 70 grit Metal Bond profiling steps were completed (and because of the porosity of the concrete slab) we applied densifier, until rejection. We changed machines from our electric Lavina 25N Pro to our new Lavina 30G Pro propane powered grinder and continued with 120 grit Metal Bond. We then transitioned to 100 grit Calibra Ceramic Bond, ensuring that we had removed all traces of scratching from the surface. These steps worked perfectly.
Once we had densified the slab thoroughly we were able to stop the random spalling I was noticing, and that gave us something we could actually polish. The condition of the slab probably contributed to the surprise expressed by the class when we had the final polishing completed. Literally everyone commented about the finished color and how easy our machines were to handle and operate."

InovaCrete® floors are ideal for areas with heavy foot traffic such as schools, stores, restaurants, warehouses, showrooms, etc. Only certified InovaCrete® contractors are trained and qualified to install InovaCrete® floors properly. Superabrasive's QuickChange tooling provides the simplest, and most economical solution for prep and grinding. The trapezoid pads are held into place by a combination dovetail-magnet system, which prevents them from slipping during aggressive work. QuickChange tooling requires QuickChange plates for attachment; plates are reusable making the system more economical than traditional welded-button plates. Superabrasive's QuickChange metals are available in in three different bonds for soft, medium, or hard concrete, in 30, 50, 70, and 120 grits for all degrees of prep work. The coarsest grits may be used for light coating removal. Single button tools are designed for lighter machines, or where aggressive stock removal is required. Double button tools are designed for heavier machines, such as Lavina 25L and 32 Pro.

Our patent-pending TRIO® wheel designed for processing Trivex® lenses features a new technology, proven to cool the surface of the wheel and lens during processing, so that the lens remains firm enough to cut with speed and accuracy. TRIVEX® is a notoriously difficult material to process. Due to the material's low melting temperature, the average roughing wheel cannot process Trivex® material lenses. Frictional heat produced by the contact between the wheel and the lens is too high for the material to withstand, and the lens material begins to soften. At this point, the wheel is tearing the lens rather than cutting it. During testing, our TRIO® wheels processed Trivex® lenses 64.4% faster when running wet and 61.5% faster when running dry. Decreasing the temperature also eliminates excess smoke and swarf build up. Most importantly, labs will notice a significant reduction in the number of rejected lenses due to internal stress, axis problems, and chipping.
TRIO® wheels are designed for both older and newer machines, with and without a Trivex® setting. In both cases, simply run the wheels on your machine's Poly setting. The new Trivex® settings slow the cutting process in an attempt to decrease the build-up of frictional heat. However, this considerably lengthens the processing time. For optimal cutting speed and performance, process your Trivex® lenses on your Poly setting every time.
